The spirit of Christmas is indeed
magical and enchanting — it’s that time of the year where Christmas
lights give life to dull streets, Christmas trees paint smiles on the kids’
faces and Christmas gifts patiently wait for its recipient to come over and
finally take it home.
The 25th day of
December has enlightened us to appreciate people’s generosity, forgiveness and
acceptance. Enemies become our friends, problems instantly forgotten, rich
people help the poor— Everyone just seems happy and contented. It makes the
world a perfect place to live even just for this season of holidays.
Back in my childhood days, I can still
recall thinking that Christmas is all about the fancily wrapped gifts,
abundant foods, pasalubongs and aguinaldos. At
first, my parents made me believe that there was really a Santa Claus who
annually grants my “wish-list”, lodged on a personalized Christmas stocking at
home. Nonetheless, I discovered that my most adored Santa, whom I’ve been
wishing to meet all my life, has been with me all these years. As time quickly
passes by, I also learned that Christmas isn’t just about receiving expensive
and luxurious gifts and Christmas aguinaldos. Little
did we know that God has sent us the most magical, incomparable and priceless
Christmas gift of all, and that’s the blessing of having the people who love
them and whom we love—our family and friends.
In this day’s solemnity of the Birth
of our Lord, we rekindle how our almighty Father sent His Son Jesus as His
“Christmas Present” to mankind. His birth brought great joy to mankind as
the shepherds, wise men, and the angels shared in the excitement of arrival of
the Messiah. Christ, with his abiding love for us, symbolizes the precious and
invaluable gift that is forever with us in this season of joy and thanksgiving.
